MateReal Inc. is thrilled to release the official report for Palette Project’s 4th One Man Live Promise, held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at City Hall & Gallery Gotanda. Palette Project, affectionately known as “Palepro,” is a seven-member virtual idol group managed by MateReal Inc., operating under the theme “Colorful Stories to Share with You.”
As before and from here on, the seven of us will honor our promise
Palette Project’s annual one-man live concerts have been a beloved tradition since 2021. Each concert has explored a different theme: “Sing with you!!” for the 1st, “Crossing for the Rainbow” for the 2nd, and “Stepping Prism” for the 3rd. The theme for this 4th installment was “Promise”. This theme encapsulates the “promise” the virtual idols have continuously conveyed through their live stages and streaming activities: “We will continue our activities to accumulate deep emotion together, so that your everyday lives sparkle with vibrant colors!” A heartwarming story of 22 songs unfolded, renewing this heartfelt commitment with their devoted fans.
As the venue darkened and the opening video played, a seven-count countdown echoed throughout the hall. Then, the seven members Clara Akatsuki, Rona Nanami, Kaname Tokiwa, Kotoha Fujimiya, Kyouka Eba, Ayumu Kitami, and Hanon Kanaru appeared on stage. The concert opened with “キミイロクロニクル (Kimiiro Chronicle),” the closing song of their 3rd one-man live. Clara Akatsuki’s energetic shout of “Let’s enjoy ourselves to the fullest today!” ignited a whirlwind of excitement in the venue. Dazzling in new costumes that blended nobility and cuteness, adorned with feathers, butterflies, and ribbons in their respective member colors, with meticulous attention to detail in every item and lace, they magnificently colored the opening.
Next, RouteHeart, the classic idol unit consisting of Rona Nanami and Kotoha Fujimiya, captivated the audience with “Dramatic Parade,” an upbeat number featuring a rhythmic, bouncy sound and memorable calls of their names and unit name woven into the interlude. Carrying the momentum of the brilliant opening, RouteHeart continued with their 1st single “ラブ・ラビリンス (Love Labyrinth)” and 2nd single “トキメキ禁断症状 (Tokimeki Craving),” accompanied by their cute dances. During the MC, they performed their customary “toast ceremony” with the entire audience, a tradition since “Palette Project Fan Appreciation Day 2024” Day 2 in September 2024. Once again, the venue transformed into a comforting space, filled with the two members’ satisfied expressions.
Following Kotoha Fujimiya’s title call, they playfully delivered the light walking tempo of “ココロステップ (Heart Step).” The subsequent “願い星 (Wishing Star)” deeply resonated with its beautiful key changes and singing voice in the chorus, reminiscent of falling meteors. Finally, they performed “Re:Myself,” the 1st single of Altimate!!, the predecessor idol unit to RouteHeart, then called Sputrip to the stage. Amid warm applause, Rona Nanami and Kotoha Fujimiya exited.
As the intro to “Starry☆Melody” began, accompanied by the chant “Palette Project is the best!”, a huge cheer erupted from the audience. Starting with a sparkling, classic idol song sound, the music took a turn mid-song, evolving multiple times. Hanon Kanaru skillfully wielded energetic, high-speed rap; Clara Akatsuki wove dreamy, sweet rap; and Kaname Tokiwa delivered melancholic, “wabi-sabi” inspired rap. Their three distinct self-introduction rap styles were incredibly addictive, instantly coloring the venue in Sputrip’s unique shades. They then continued with a non-stop barrage of performances, including “アイドライフライト (Idol Life Flight)”, “Like A Night Cruising”, “with your JOURNEY”, “光の惑星 (Planet of Light)” and “トイ×トイ☆パーティー！(Toy×Toy☆Party!)”, leaving the audience deeply entranced.
Sputrip, active as a city pop unit, incorporates the retro aesthetic of the 80’s into their music and lyrics. They fuse the new culture of virtual entertainment with the “Kawaii” culture of Japanese idols, creating their own unique city pop sound. Notably, in “Like A Night Cruising,” performed as the third song, their singing and dancing showcased a groovy sensation that seamlessly blended with the simple, sophisticated track characteristic of city pop. Their stamina to sing and dance six consecutive songs without interruption, coupled with their ability to interpret the world of each song and express it through vocals, dance, and facial expressions, resulted in a truly spectacular stage that transcended the boundaries of idol performance.
In response to calls from Sputrip and the audience, Kyouka Eba and Ayumu Kitami of the metal unit REGALILIA appeared. After energetic self-introductions, they engaged in a cheerful chat with Sputrip. With Ayumu Kitami’s roar of “Raise your fists, you all!”, the venue was bathed in red and purple flashes, igniting a whirlwind of excitement. Gripping their handheld microphones, they delivered a powerful performance, combining heavy sounds with overwhelming vocal power and sharp dancing, cascading through “Demon Drivers”, “快進劇 (Rapid Progress Drama)” and “Tiny Brave.”
During the MC, in line with the theme “Promise” , they made a promise with the audience to enjoy “udon”, Ayumu Kitami’s favorite food from Fukuoka Prefecture, after the live. When Kyouka Eba cheerfully encouraged, “Make sure to post pictures of us eating udon on social media!”, the venue filled with warm laughter. Their perfectly synchronized banter is another crucial element that highlights REGALILIA’s charm.
Following Kyouka Eba’s spirited call to action, “Three consecutive full throttles! We’re going full speed ahead! Everyone, follow us!”, the world of “MORAL” unfolded with the phrase “Now, let’s fall into this hell──.” The expressive descent of their vocals from mid-range to low-range resonated deeply with the audience. In the subsequent “キライラ (Kiraira)”, a poignant melody and piercing vocals, distinct from the intense sound, reverberated, drawing the audience into its world. For the finale, “Einherjar”, heavy riffs and a grand sound exploded. In resonance with their powerful shouts, the audience raised their fists and sent fervent cheers.
At the peak of the audience’s excitement, all seven members of Palette Project swiftly appeared on stage and performed “Realize”. The powerful beats of the DJ sound merged with the energetic voices of the seven, creating a dynamic stage unique to the full lineup. Afterward, the stage went dark, and the concert title appeared on the screen.
Responding to the audience’s enthusiastic encore, Palette Project reappeared and performed “ドリームインブルーム！(Dream in Bloom!)”, a song that expresses the journey the seven have built together and their hopes and aspirations for the future. When they called out, “Can you get even more excited? Let us hear your loud voices!”, the audience responded with clapping and cheers, and the venue instantly became one. It was truly impressive to see them run around the stage with all their might, exchanging smiles occasionally, and sharing this special moment with the audience. The harmonized vocals and dance of the seven embodied the very essence of a virtual idol group.
Before the final song, the lights in the venue dimmed, and the silhouettes of the seven members emerged on stage. In the hushed silence of the venue, Clara Akatsuki conveyed her gratitude to the audience and concluded with, “This promise in the heart; belief follows Amidst the overflowing applause in the venue, the stage for the newly unveiled “Own other side” began.
As the music started, the seven exchanged words, creating a scene as if they were questioning themselves. The audience listened intently to every word, holding their breath and watching as the emotions embedded in the lyrics were conveyed. The members’ expressions and movements further emphasized the message of the lyrics, and the emotion that filled the venue continued until the very last moment, creating a truly memorable and heartfelt finale.
